Halloween
So I thought I would throw this out there and see what kind of reaction I got…should Halloween be “celebrated” in the elementary school? It’s not really a holiday. Kids have a lot of fun dressing up and coming to school and showing off their costumes for their friends. But is this the place for that? Some families take the kids ”trick-or-treating,” either at the mall or around the neighborhood, but that is not school-related. What are your feelings on this?

I do not feel it needs to be celebrated in school . It gives the children something to have a focus on that is not needed at this time. and some people may not have the means to buy or purchase a costume like somone else. call me cranky school should be for school. iF SOE HOW WE COULD CONTRIBUTE IT INTO A LEARNING LESSON WELL THAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT

They don’t need it because they could have a fun day like halloween in April.Like they did last year lots of people had fun. So I don’t think you have to do it but it would be a little fun for the kids.I would like it but it if we can’t celebrate it I will be okay. I hope you get this soon because I tried my best on this. It is how I really feel about it but Halloween in April will be fine.

I think kids need to have a little fun in school too. They are more stressed now than ever with all the demands placed on them at such a young age that they need an “outlet” once in a while. Perhaps an alternative to the dressing up & parading through the halls could be that they make “creative” masks in their classrooms & celebrate with a party afterward.

i think they should celebrate it just until they get to the middle school, they are still kids let them have fun!!! please don’t take that away from them. Leave it up to the parents if they don’t want there kids to dress up!!! i think they should be kids and enjoy!!

The Middle Schoolers still dress up AND Seniors compete for prizes in the HS. I think this would have to be a school-wide discussion, especially since all other buildings would be celebrating.

I think Halloween should still be celebrated in school. Kids these days have so much pressures both in school and outside of school, it is nice for them to enjoy this holiday to enjoyas it should be, FUN! The choice is theirs whether they wish to dress up or not, but there should still be time to have fun, laugh and celebrate with friends and staff and do all the fun activites planned in the past like the pumpkin carving contest.

I get your point, but halloween parties are fun! Most kids love showing off their costumes to their friends and it gives them a chance to be different. And they laugh if people have the same costumes!

I think it should still be celebrated in order to give the kids something to look forward too. A fun reason to want to go to school. Let the kids be kids. They grow up too soon.

I think you should keep Halloween in school. We must remember that they are still kids, and they need to “let loose” once in a while. Keep it the way you always have…nothing too scary, easy to move around in, nothing on the face, etc. I know my kids have always loved it when the teachers and staff dress up too.
In regards to the person who commented on kids not being able to afford a costume, maybe you can do what some of us at WES do. We find out which kids do not have a costume, and do our best to get them one. Usually a hand me down costume from a teacher or staff member’s child. We have also had parents donate their children’s old costumes.

I absolutely think the children should be able to celebrate Halloween they grow up so fast they should be aloud to be children for as long as they can.

I think that the children should not just have it. I think the wekk of halloween they should be good. Such as. No talking back. Getting good grades. And no swearing. If they can succeed that goal than every classroom can have there little party with costumes and things. If they don’t They can have a regular day at school.
